• I just used Bluehost to install WP. Somewhere along the way I used my first name as my username. I had not noticed that Bluehost had assigned me a username close to my given name but not exactly the same. It appears to have taken my name at the dashboard but not on the cPanel. This is causing various problems. The most obvious one is a line of code showing above some of the pages. My profile says that the username cannot be changed. There appears no way to change it on the cPanel either.

  • Not sure of the cPanel name–you’d need to ask your host.

If you don’t like your username in WordPress, create a new user with the desired username, then delete the old username and assign the posts to the new username.

Thanks. That sounds as though it may clear up part of my problem. I’m also getting error messages instead of posting to ABOUT or admittance to ARCHIVES. It could be related to the username problem.

It failed to work. It would not permit the deletion of the administrator’s username or changing it to Author or Editor. I now have myself listed as administrator under both usernames.
