When I tried to log into my site recently I got the message:

The username *** is not registered on this site. If you are unsure of your username, try your email address instead.

My username has not changed, so I don’t know why it is suddenly not recognized.

And the site itself looks fine. Visitors are not having trouble reading the site, but I can’t log in to make changes.

I saw a suggestion to upload an older database, but that didn’t help. Any other suggestions?

Thank you for any help you can give me!

I tried logging in directly from Plesk, and I get the message:

    WordPress administrator credentials are missing

    Hi

WordPress doesn’t changes the admins username automatically. I hope you have forgot something.
You can try these tutorial to recover WordPress login:

Thank you for replying! I tried your link but unfortunately, none of those suggestions work. The issue isn’t the password, the issue is the username. I tried using my username and my email, but WordPress says neither one is registered. My username and email have not changed. I don’t know why it doesn’t recognize me.

I tried the Account Recovery form and I got the message: “We could not find an account that matches your login.”

It is like I don’t exist! Have I fallen into a parallel universe? Should I call my mother to verify that I have, indeed, been born?

Please let me know if you have any other suggestions.

    Please don’t worry.
Try this way, it will surely help you to recover from this problem.

    1. Go to your cpanel.
    2. Install the WordPress from the beginning. Make sure you have entered your mail id.
Note: Take a screenshot of your username, email and password.

    And re-edit your website again

    Thank you for your help!

I have minimal tech skills, so before I do this I want to verify:

    1. By “cpanel” you mean the control panel in Plesk, correct? Or something else?

    2. What is my mail id?

    3. And when you say to re-edit the website, do you mean to start from scratch? Or do you mean the editing that I have not done yet, the stuff I was planning to do?

    Thank you!

looks like your webhost might be mediatemple. (https://mediatemple.net/support)
can you get in touch with the webhost support to ask them to guide you to access the database connected to your website. the database is often located in an area called PHPMYADMIN. inside the database is the users table.
the usernames and email addresses are available in the users table.
you can confirm the information about which usernames are set up.

Thank you for your help! MediaTemple is my host. I did look on PHPMyAdmin and found my user table. It has me listed with the correct password.

UPDATE: This problem lasted about three months. I tried a variety of suggestions, and still couldn’t log in. Today I was chatting with my host’s help support on a separate issue, and I mentioned that I still couldn’t login to WordPress. He gave it a look and said the user name was —–. No, that was my user name from several years ago. It turns out my current user name no longer works, but I could login using my user name and password from several years ago. I still don’t know what happened or why, but now I can login and make changes to my site.
