I have had a self-hosted version of WordPress running for a while. Was just using it yesterday to write and publish something. Today, it will not let me log in. Blog is displaying fine, but when I try to login with my info, I get this error:

Error: The username xxxxx is not registered on this site. If you are unsure of your username, try your email address instead.

As it suggested, I tried my email, and was able to reset password/login, but when I did, I just get a dashboard that only shows “WordPress Events and News”. Leftnav is there, but only shows my profile, where there’s not a ton of info. No links to my blogs, settings, etc…

I’ve tried various suggested remedies (clearing cache, removing plugins folder, etc…), no luck. Checking with my host now to see if they did anything, but I’m not seeing anything else out of the ordinary. Any ideas?

    Running WordPress 5.8.3
    Theme: Astra

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

Well, that’s strange, I was able to login to the db directly with phpMyAdmin and look at the User table. Apparently someone changed my username somehow. I was able to change it back, update password, etc… and access. Now I need to get paranoid and update everything everywhere, ugh.

There’s no interface in WP to change the username field, so to be safe, install a plugin like WordFence. Scan your site and set it to email you whenever an admin logs in.
