• Hello folks,
I have built a fairly large WP website which has replaced an existing non-WP portal.
I have imported a large number of users. Some usernames contain accented characters (ex: libertà) and the corresponding users cannot login.
I tried, as an experiment, to create new usernames with accents, and realised WordPress discards non ascii characters in new usernames.
Any suggestion? Is there a way to support usernames with the àéèiòù characters?
    Thanks in advance,
    Davide

  • What is the character set for your blogs MySQL database tables?

It’s unicode utf-8; the database collation is utf8_general_ci, and so is the table collation.

Did you manage to solve this?

I really am wondering why WP doesn’t natively allow non-ASCII characters to be used in a username.. Not everyone speaks English guys!
