If you select ‘Subcriber’, then all people having the role ‘Subscriber’ will receive notifications for all forums. At this time, there is no way to make it so that some forums receive notifications and others don’t. It’s all or nothing based on the roles selected in the settings.

Which role do I select so only people subscribed to the forum (considering there is only one forum) get notified?

By default all registered visitors are given a role of “Participant” in the forum.

Out of the box, notifications occur across all forums (one or many, all people from a selected role will be notified).

Choosing ‘Participant’ will notify all participants when a new topic or reply is created.

    Hi Vinny,

I have the same problem, I have 12 forums and a lot of participants. I’ve checked “Participant” in the role and all the participants of my website get the email. Which is not what I expected.

Can you please explain how to send the email about let’s say a new reply in the topic only for users who subscribed to the specific topic’s update before?

I’ve read your reply above and doesn’t get it. Is it possible or not?

    Hi @prettyboyelias,

Version 1.14 introduced the ability to take over bbPress Core Subscriptions. It has a few improvements when compared to core:

    1. You can easily control the email template being sent
    2. Emails get sent individually to each user instead of all recipients grouped in the BCC column
    3. It integrates seamlessly with the Digests and Opt-out premium add-ons

To enable the overrides, go to Settings > Forums > Email Notifications > Override Subscriptions to Forums (for new topics notifications) and Override Subscriptions to Topics (for new reply notifications).

If you don’t want any of that, then you don’t really need my plugin and should be using just the bbPress core subscriptions.

    Cheers,
    Vinny
