• After we upgraded WordPress 2.9.2 to 3.3.1, along with individually turning back on plugins and updating, one of our admin accounts and all user accounts were locked out. Only the account that was logged in during the upgrade was allowed back in without resetting the password. The website owner is very concerned that this will happen again during future upgrades. Is there a stability issue with this that we should be aware of? Our membership site is growing and we cannot afford to have this problem again with a large membership base. Has anyone experienced this before?

How? In a single step? If so, please tell me that you made a pre-upgrade database backup.

Yes, I did a full backup. I do for even small upgrades. Against my better judgement I did do it in a single upgrade, so I was telling her that was the most likely reason, but she wants to make sure it won’t happen again. I did it with a test installation recently that also hadn’t had updates in a long time and that one went smoothly, so I wasn’t as concerned with this one…

You’re right. A single upgrade step that large may have trashed the database. The fact that it seemed to work fine on another site is just good/bad luck. I’d suggest restoring the 2.9.2 site and then following the instructions in Upgrading_WordPress_Extended.

This is exactly the problem i have just experienced with my client’s website: https://www.beaumariskelpies.com.au
    How do I restore the 2.9.2? I don’t do technical…unfortunately!!

Thanks for your help – BB

The accounts are all fine now – I reset the passwords and after clearing the cache she was able to log in. We just wanted to make sure there wasn’t an issue with updates & logins in the future.
