Users can't logon error 503 Service Temporarily Unavailable

  • Hello,

    I’m using WordPress, with BuddyPress & BBPress (all updated to the latest).
    For the last few days when Users try and logon they get an error message as follows:

    “Service Temporarily Unavailable

    The server is temporarily unable to service your request due to maintenance downtime or capacity problems. Please try again later.”

    Logging in with a social profile still works but most of my site users don’t do this.

    I’ve spoke to my hosting company 1and1 but they said the problem isn’t at their end.

    I’m not sure if this is a BuddyPress, WordPress or BBPress issue, please forgive me if I’m posting to the wrong forum but can you help please!

    1and1 say, that they have current no result.

    So, noch mal auf deutsch (geht besser bei mir) ??
    Ich habe das Problem seit 3 Wochen und heute zum dritten Mal bei 1und1 angerufen. Sie haben immer noch keine L?sung. Ihr Sicherheitskonzept unterbindet die Anmeldung in den WP-Admin-Bereich.
    Ich bekomme eine Mail wenn das Problem beseitigt ist, blablablabla…
    Da warte ich schon seit 3 Wochen drauf!

    Noch 1 Woche und ich ziehe die WordPress-Seiten zu einen anderen Provider um, bzw. stelle auf ein anderen CMS (ok, WP ist kein CMS) um.

    Ich habe es auch von verschiedenen Internetzug?ngen und Providern versucht. Diese M?glichkeit habe ich, da ich viele Firmenkunden betreue. Leider ohne Erfolg!
    WordPress ist generell viel zu anf?llig für Angriffe weil es einfach so weit verbreitet ist.
    Auch wenn die Angriffe nichts bewirken, so sind es Angriffe und Angriffe=Traffic.
    Da haben die Provider wie 1und1 kein Bock drauf und machen dicht.

    I just had this same issue and here’s what I found. I am trying to log in at my ‘work’ location. It gives me the 503 error. When I try to log in at my ‘home’ location (via VPN [TeamViewer]) I can log in just fine.

    Could this be an ISP issue??

    I have this same problem on 1and1. An earlier commenter listed the content of his htaccess. These particular lines are important:

    ——–
    order deny,allow
    Allow from XXX.XX.XX.XXX
    deny from all
    ——–

    I checked my own htaccess file and it included these lines except for the “Allow from” line.

    So, I googled “my IP address” to get my public/external IP address for my home. Then I added the “Allow from” line followed by my IP address. Saved. Uploaded.

    It took a few attempts/refreshes to clear whatever cache, but then I was – surprise surprise – ALLOWED to log in. At least when connected to the network at my home.

    Hope this is helpful.

    They have fixed the problem.
    I can login in my wordpress, again ??

    Gut, dass es wieder funktioniert!
    Das mit der IP kann aber keine L?sung sein, da ich von überall auf der Welt administrieren will und auch keine feste IP zu Hause habe!
