Users cant see forums

The admin can see and use the forums fine, users cannot. I am using the wpforo default access settings and user groups. Any possible changes would make no sense.
what am i missing?

Thanks for the update. I will test without the plugin you suggest in the next days. The plugin does work albeit with manual updates only on the free version. I cant believe i didnt see this plugin before or was hesitant to add another to a very long list.
