• For the past several days, under USERS in the admin panel has been stuck on the total count of subscribers to my site. I can enter a new contributor and when added, it does’t change the count. How do I resolve this?

It’s really important to me. Does anyone know how to resolve this issue?

Why does it take so long to get a response? Overall WordPress is great. But responses to users questions could be a little better. I need help on my issue please.

FYI – there is no one paid to answer questions, just volunteers. Now that said, you have asked a question but not provided some basic information like
    what version of WordPress?
have you disabled ALL plugins and swapped to the default theme?
what is the subscriber count you see?

Note: i may or may not be able to respond immediately – it depends on what ever else is happening in my life…

How many users in total do you have on the site?

I am using WordPress 4.1.1 running Gabfire’s sharp theme. My user count stopped at 32,927 several days ago and even when I add a new one, it doesn’t change 32,927 any of the different types of user count. I disabled all plugins and defaulted to default theme and nothing changes. Thanks to you two for responding so quick.

Ahhhh you’ve hit a magic number – 32768 – in couputer terms. I would say that in the wordpress core, they have defined a variable that will only hold up to the number you have seen and then it can’t hold any more.

The fix for this would be to go in and change the wordpress core code.

but are you sure that all of those are subscribers and not 80% robot subscriptions?

I have disabled all plugins and deleted cache. Nothing changed. Changed to default them. No change. If I reinstall wordpress, would it overwrite some custumising I have made since beginning use of it? I haven’t made any changes since before this problem occurred 5 days ago. How about changing the wordpress code as you suggested might work? what code would I insert, what file, and where at in the file?

making a change like that will take mre time and effort than I’m willing to spend. In addition, any change to the wordpress code would have to be redone every time wordpress is upgraded.

You could try seeing it the wordpress team would consider this a bug.

Just what is so intreaging about your site that would get more than 32768 people to subscribe to it? What is the URL, maybe I’ll want to subscribe.

There is no limit to the number of WP users in a site; it’s been the case since day 1 for WordPress. See https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/user-limit-for-wordpress-27?replies=6

You’re running into a limit at your webhost. Sounds like your host’s MySQL server is limiting the length of the database query needed to run the user query. Ask your host.

The issue the OP has is not on how many users he has but with how many are being reported

@juggledad: same difference; the database query is not being completed.

    And you said:

I would say that in the wordpress core, they have defined a variable that will only hold up to the number you have seen and then it can’t hold any more.

which is wrong; WP will report all users – unlimited – when there is nothing breaking the SQL query.

when there is nothing breaking the SQL query.

In that case there should be some error message somewhere

    @jaydokie
    – have you checked your server error log?
    – Have you talked to your host’s support about this
    – have you turned WP_DEBUG on?

Talking to my host server right now about it.
