    Hi,

The user’s dropdown menu located in the uppper right-hand corner contains 3 options…Profile, Account and Log Off. If a regular user clicks on Account, it takes them to https://mysite.com/wp-admin/profile.php.

How can I make it take them to their own profile page? The way it is now they can’t upload an avatar, change password or anything.

    Thanks in advance.

  • Hey. Could you please provide some more details to this: What theme are you using? The URL of your site?

I’m using deTube. I don’t want to post my URL because like I stated in my post, the profile page that you go to is my admin’s profile with all of the settings options on the left hand column. I’m sorry. If you could just tell me which file is supposed to be used for the user’s profile, maybe I could correct it.

    Thanks.

That’s not part of WordPress by default. The only 2 options are usually “Edit My Profile” and Log Out”.

I was thinking it was probably something like that. Could you tell me the name of the php file that is used for the “Edit My Profile”? Maybe I can modify it into my site.

    Thanks again.

No! Never, ever, edit WordPress core scripts. Editing core scripts can bring down your entire site and/or open security holes for hackers to use.

Thanks for telling me that. I won’t be trying that. I just logged in as a test user and clicked on account. It takes me to /wp-admin/profile.php and on the left-hand side of the screen at the top of the grey bar are three options…Jetpack (that option works), next is Videos (that one says “You do not have sufficient permissions to access this page), and the last one is Pages , that takes you to WP-Quick-Pages (and that lets the user create pages). If I can just get rid of these three options I’ll be ok.

By the way…when I go to “Account” it shows the correct user info.

    Thanks again.

I think you are seeing that because you are logged into your account. Try it on a different computer, or log out and try again.

Thanks for the suggestion, 7PieceMeal. I just tried logging in from a computer that I’ve never logged into as Admin. When I clicked on Account, I got a popup username/password box (I have my wp-admin/ directory password protected). Could this be my problem? Should I unprotect that directory? I was worried about hackers.

    When I clicked on Account

Sorry? Account? There isn’t such an option in WordPress by default.

When you click on Account in deTube, it takes you to /wp-admin/profile.php.

Problem solved! I just installed Profile Builder plugin and it works just fine. I was able to setup a custom profile page and added it to my “Profile/Log Off” dropdown menu.

Thanks for all of the info.
