• I am using 123-reg to host my site:
    https://www.mindyourpaws.co.uk/blog/

Trouble is, all of my url’s now have /blog in them because I had to enter enter a name (I entered “blog”) to create a directory to install the application to.

For now, I’m just going to leave it as it is because I don’t want the hassle of changing it!

But, I’m soon going to be building a totally separate WordPress site, and ideally I want to use 123-reg to host it because I found the set-up quite simple, but I don’t want the same issue’s with my url’s … can anybody shed any light on how I can get around this problem??

  • Hello,

With 123 reg if you leave that field you typed “blog” into blank i think it will just install without anything in the URL, or the best way to do it if you want to still use the 123 reg install tool is put something like “site” or “public” as the name so they would appear instead of the blog name.

Hi Chris, thanks for the input. I might try your suggestion of just leaving it blank & hope for best, have you tried this approach?

The goal is to basically just have the essentials in the url without any extra/unnecessary words. My previous effort has blighted all the page url’s ever since!

    Hello,

I think i have used it in the past as i use 123 reg. The other option is to manually install wordpress on your website using FTP software, then you can just install it without having to select a directory or anything, is it a little more complicated and time consuming that the current method your using

    Thanks

To be honest, I only use this method as it’s kind of simple for a novice like me!
I wouldn’t know where to start with FTP software!!!

    Hello there.

Today I tried to install wordpress using 123 reg as my web host.
Followed instructions through to WordPress installed press “my website address: to complete installation and it then goes to 123 reg selling services page?????
    under my website name???

I am a total newbie at doing all this and the language- Enjoying it though!
What do I need to do? Trying to see if I can sort this out before Monday when 123 reg can reply to my request. Thought this would be a Great place to get help!

    Hi Nighters,

I’m no expert myself, but I followed the instructions from a guy on YouTube (his channel is called HTSYOOB) which was pretty helpful.
The only thing I would change if I did it again would be to not enter the word “blog” (as the file name) when he suggests it, because all of my url’s now have the word blog in them!!

    Good luck ??

    Thanks Mindpaws

    Will check it out

    Keep you posted!
