Having been properly chastised for trying to make changes through the Encounters Lite theme editor, I have read and followed the instructions for creating a child theme. The child theme is activated and the style.css change I made to change the header font worked.

However, changing “Your Name” to “TheHudsons.com” in the footer copyright has had no affect. The footer.php is in the child theme folder at the same level as style.css, as it is in the parent theme folder. I also found an occurrence of “Your Name” in includes/theme-customizer.php, which I changed, but still no joy.

    What am I missing?

  • Hi fiberlyone,

I haven’t tried out Encounters Lite but if there is an option in the theme settings to change the text of the footer, you can use it safely. Child themes are to make changes to the core files and behavior of the theme.

Hi fiberlyone….for the footer text on the copyright, Thimothe is correct that within the theme options (Appearance >> customize) is a Basic Settings tab in the customizer to let you change the text.

As for a child theme, this theme has a child theme already made for you that you can install. It’s found in the theme’s folder named in another folder: child-theme

I swear I must have looked at that a dozen times and did not see the box (though I was sure I saw it when I was setting up the page) and just glance over it.

Thanks for your help and getting me pointed in the right direction.

No worries… I can easily say when I have to look at code every day, I can stare at it trying to find something in the code and not find it until I go get a coffee, lol.

I’m glad we were helpful. You are welcome.

And I agree that sometimes it can be really easy to miss an option in a page even if you know the option is there.
