Using a Temp URL while transitioning to a new host

  • Howdy,

    I’m changing hosts and did a cPanel backup/restore to copy over all my info. I received a Temp URL from my host to use while the DNS stuff propagates but it doesn’t work to load my WP site. I edited the WP_Options table and updated HOME and SITEURL to use the Temp URL but still don’t have any luck

    Are there other things I need to change in any config files or anything else in order to make this work? I simply get a 404 error when I try to use it. The URL I’m trying to use is:
    https://145.239.5.35/~awhatmom/

  • Hello kelemvor,
    If you made DNS changes over 24 hours ago, it should have propagated successfully by now. I recommend changing your settings back to the original URL to see if it is resolving to the new server.
    If it is not, you can test with a “Host File Modification” pointing to your new server IP in the meantime.
