Using a vertical menu widget problem

    Hi, I’ve tried everything and searched through the forums but can’t find the answer to my problem so please help!

    I’m using responsive theme. Basically if I use the custom menu widget to add menus to my sidebar, they appear there one after the other in a vertical order.This is what I want, however it doesn’t look very nice and the look doesn’t fit in with the rest of the site.

    So I installed many different menu sidebar widgets such as jquery vertical menu, etc, and for some reason the menus always display horizontally (or 3 in a row, then underneath another two) and look strange, they never display vertically, one after the other. Please help as i’ve spent hours trying to figure this out.
