I installed it with the goal to use multiple child themes overlaying the base theme, depending on a page prefix, as all I want to do is change the accent color used by the theme (and in the logo and other graphics). But it’s not working. I am working from a local wordpress install, if that matters. The theme is Nimble by Dream-Theme, and I’m using Child Themes to have a different set of Theme Options used for different page prefixes (Dream-Theme using a custom panel to make these changes). Flipping back and forth between themes works just fine, but nothing happens when I visit the pages — they’re all using the default theme. Is what I’m trying to do possible?

I can privately send the IP address of the site if needed (it’s not domain mapped yet).

    Thanks for the help!

  • Past experience with Paid Themes, including some other ThemeForest ones, indicates that a lot of them do a lot of “interventions” (WordPress Hooks) that “defeat” what my plugin is trying to do. This sounds like one of those cases.

The problem then is that, should I be able to come up with a solution with the plugin, future versions of the Theme, which I won’t know about because I cannot afford to buy Paid Themes, may made additional “interventions” that make my plugin no longer work.

The best solution would be to use a WordPress Network (Multisite) setup with each (Child) Theme on a different Site. The URLs can look pretty good. For example, your home page might be example.com, one Child Theme might be on example.com/apples and another on example.com/oranges.

I am willing to discuss this further.

I should also mention that Paid Themes come with Support, and the Plugin Author may have some better ideas than I do. https://support.dream-theme.com/support-policy/

Thank you for the prompt reply! I was afraid that was what was happening. My only issue with using Multisite is that I want to have a shared calendar and post feed across the entire site — all I want to change is the accent color. I will contact the theme developer and see if he/she has any ideas.

    Thanks again!

Hi! I have the same problem and I want to change only a ribbon decoration on some pages. Working with 5 child themes, so each one changes the color of the ribbon and identifies a particular section; but… the first attempt removes any other plugin installed and ignoring the images I set as a background.

I′m working with Vintage Camera theme (developer hit me away from any question), do you think Multisite is the answer? I like what you are doing with this plugin.

    Thanks in advance!

A lot has happened since this thread began. I now have a major new version of the plugin that makes it compatible with a lot more Themes and other plugins.

So, I think it is worth your effort to test with it, if you haven’t already. Be sure to read the Theme Options tab on the plugin’s Settings page for details as they apply to your background images.

Multisite (WordPress Network), with one Theme per Site, is guaranteed to work, but introduces issues associated with sharing Menus and such across multiple sites, to give your web site an integrated (one big web site, not multiple web sites) appearance.

Wow! thanks for the immediate response! I like your plugin, I want to work with it, may be I′m doing something wrong…

See, i′m selecting the option URL and child theme “X”, then introduce the address of my local host like this: https://localhost:8888/comfort-inn/ and save!

But it returns me to the original theme appearance… where all my very good modifications are missed, lol.

    Thanks!

Interesting, as I’ve never done testing with Port Numbers (“:8888”), so that may not be working properly in my plugin. I’ll try to put together some tests with port number, but it will probably be Morning here before I get that completed, as it is late at night here now.

So very thank you! it′s late here too.

    See you soon!

It took a while for me to figure out how to set up a site with a different Port Number, but I have my own localhost:8888 now. And my plugin works properly.

On my plugin’s Setting page, it displays:

Theme Selection Entries:	In order of Selection:
    1. Delete {box} Theme=Twenty Ten; URL=https://localhost:8888/comfort-inn/

Please check yours to see if it matches, other than the Theme Name.

I’ll now try with some Child Themes, since that too is not something I’ve tested much with my plugin.

My first tests with a Child Theme work as they should. I just checked and see that Vintage Camera is included in the WordPress Theme Directory, which gives me the ability to test it fully.

To avoid a lot of wasted time on my part guessing how you accomplished your changes to your Child Themes, I would ask that you either:

    1. Send me your Child Themes, if you changed the colours and other things in the theme files; we can connect via e-mail using the Contact Form on this page: https://jonradio.com/contact-us/
    2. Tell me what you did, if you changed the colours and other things using the Theme’s WordPress Admin Appearance panels.

I ask for your patience as Child Themes, and Theme Modifications in general, are an area where I lack expertise.

Thank you, I will contact you.
