    Hello, Themeisle!

    Since there’s been an update in the GDPR about the use of Google Fonts through Google’s CDN, I am wondering, what solution does Neve offer to comply to these rules?

    A link to the explanation of the breach:
    Using Google Fonts Breaches GDPR

    I have noticed that Neve offers a way to add “custom fonts” via the Orbit Fox module here:
    Themeisle Docs

    However, I have two questions about that:

    1. How does someone add more font weights via Orbit Fox module?
    For example, I use Montserrat normal, medium and bold variants (400, 500 and 700) of the typeface. Orbit Fox allows me to add only one weight.

    2. Does that disable linking to the Google’s CDN?
    If it doesn’t, it’s breaching the GDPR and users of Neve theme may get fined.

    Cheers!

    I can confirm that using the Orbit Fox way does not use all the font weights. I ended up uploading the fonts via my FTP and set the CSS like in the “generic integration guide”.

    However, this did not remove these from my site:

    <link rel="dns-prefetch" href="//fonts.googleapis.com">
    <link href="https://fonts.gstatic.com" crossorigin="" rel="preconnect">

    Could Themeisle provide a way to disable those?

    Hello @supportneeded9 ,

    Thank you for reaching out!

    Well, this rule seems to be applied only to German users so I’m not sure there is something we can apply to all of our users, however, we do have documentation about how to store the fonts locally in Neve. Also, using Orbit Fox works.

    As for removing the said links, we have an option built-in in the PRO version of Neve, however, for the free one, you would need to use a child theme in order to dequeue the style using the information here.

    Or another way is to use a dedicated plugin such as https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/disable-remove-google-fonts/ might work.

    Thank you for understanding and have an amazing day!

    Hey, @mateithemeisle!

    It’s been a week since my post.

    …this rule seems to be applied only to German users so I’m not sure there is something we can apply to all of our users…

    GDPR is not related to Germany only, it’s related to any EU country. EU takes privacy seriously.

    @supportneeded9,

    In the Neve theme, Google fonts are not loaded if you don’t select them in the Typography section of Customizer.
    So if you want to stop them from being loaded just switch back to one of the System fonts – https://vertis.d.pr/QDXBzj

    I hope it helps!

    @bvytis

    I got that settled through the CSS and local hosting the fonts. From what I have, Neve suits me really well.

    I still have issue with the Elementor’s Google Maps loading maps, but I’ll find a way with that as well somehow.
