    Hello!

We have a 1 website, that works across 2 sub-domains. This was done so that it appears to the website visitor that they are on the same website. The header, footer, CSS styles, etc are identifcal, however the first is powered by WordPress while the second is powered by ColdFusion:

    1. Website #1 – This is the main website, is powered by WordPress and utilizes the MonsterInsights plugin. The site lives here: https://www.website1.com
    2. Website #2 – On the public side, this appears to the viewer as if they are on the same website as Website #1. However, the backend is not WordPress. Which means I cannot use the MonsterInsights plugin. This site lives here: https://shop.website1.com

Website #1 currently works, and the G4 Analytics is collecting data, but Website #2 does not. I’d like to have both sub-domains in the same G4 property, so that traffic can be analyzed together.

Is it possible to just add the code on the public side of Website #1, that is generated by MonsterInsights (viewing the page source) to the other sub-domain?

If not, how can we get this scenario working?

    Hi @jeffwit,

    Thanks for reaching out.

For tracking across multiple domains, we recommend:

Using the same measurement ID is needed by Google Analytics in order to correctly track the sessions between domains.

To locate the measurement ID that MonsterInsights is using, please log into your WordPress admin and go to Insights ? Settings ? Google Authentication, and note what is listed as the Active Profile.

To manually set up your Google Tag on your non-WordPress site, please go to analytics.google.com ? Admin ? Data streams.

    Then from here:

    1. Open the data stream and verify it’s the correct measurement ID.
    2. Follow the steps to Install manually under View tag instructions (found at the bottom of the page)

It also might be possible that the third party service has a Google Analytics integration and cross domain tracking feature themselves.

Something else worth noting is since the third party website is not a WordPress site, MonsterInsights will not be able to do any advanced tracking such as outbound link tracking, download link tracking and etc. This will need to be manually coded in or configured for the non-WordPress site.

Here’s how to set up MonsterInsights for cross domain tracking: https://www.monsterinsights.com/docs/setup-cross-domain-tracking/

Additionally, here is Google’s guide as well in case it’s helpful for the third party site, or if you need to try any troubleshooting: https://support.google.com/analytics/answer/10071811?hl=en

I hope this helps, but let me know if you have further questions.

    Thanks!
