• Hello,

I’m setting up my website and I have the addon domains all set up (https://www.lastnightneveragain.co.uk) however, when you click on the website, instead of showing the sub domains it instead shows the hosting address on the address bar (https://c4265167.myzen.co.uk/wp/) I’ve messaged my hosting who inform me this will be something to do with how my wordpress is set up.

I was wondering if someone could explain to me what the problem is and what i’d need to do to resolve it.

    Best,

    Richard.

  • So, just to recap – you set up wordpress with multisite as an add-on domain? and you want to use subdomains?

No sorry, I wasn’t 100% clear on where to post this question.

Basically I’m setting up my website and have added my domain to point to my website, however when you click it the hosting address comes up on the address bar, not the website I want to use.

Apologies looking further into this it may be in the wrong thread as I don’t think multisite is really applicable to my problem.

    Rich.

No, it;s not. ?? I’m going to move this thread to troubleshooting.

Cool, thank you. Hope someone can help!

How’s things actually set up in the WP install? Like in settings->general, the urls

    (@lnna)

Oh, it’s set as https://c4265167.myzen.co.uk/wp, is it this that needs changing?

Ya, I would think so. However, exactly what needs changed to what…. I’m not going to be able to give perfect guidance, as every domain/hosting configuration may be a bit different….

My site url points to my actual site url, domain.com
My wordpress url points to my hosting url

Not sure if that config will work for you or not.

Right I’m making some inrodes in this. On the help setup page it says

”Copy (NOT MOVE!) the index.php and .htaccess files from the WordPress directory into the root directory of your site (Blog address). The .htaccess file is invisible, so you may have to set your FTP client to show hidden files. If you are not using pretty permalinks, then you may
    not have a .htaccess file.”

What and where is the root directory?

Are you actually relocating your server?

the root directory is the base, where all your web accessible files are stored on your server

usually called something like html or public or something

on your server it looks like all your wordpress files are in the /wp directory

so root should be one above that… /wp folder is located in root
    so root/wp

Nope, think I’ve mucked it up! Sorry I’m just not very good with things like this. I think I’ve followed the instructions to the letter and it doesn’t seem to work?

from your post above, it seemed like you were moving files? Why? Are you trying to relocate the files?

I was just stating one, or both urls in settings->general may have needed to be changed to your domain

    Thread Starter LNNA

    (@lnna)

only if you are moving WP

    those instructions are for instance….

your site is now at domain.com/wordpress, and you want to move it to domian.com

I appear to have lost a file or something now, maybe the index.php. I need some serious help regarding getting this sorted and setup if anyone is willing to dip in and have a look?

    (@lnna)

Okay so I’ve basically copied my entire wordpress file and recreated it under a different wordpress account, so the website is now located at https://c4265167.myzen.co.uk/lnna/

Could anyone now tell me the steps I need to take to set up my domain name (https://www.lastnightneveragain.co.uk). I am using Zen hosting and also purchased my domain name through them too.

    Thanks
