Using Participants Database with an Existing Database

My wordpress site already has quite a bit of data driven functionality based on a MySQL database we set up in PHPAdmin.

Now I would like to add functionality to allow the admin and possibly the participants to add new and edit their listings. It seems like Participants Database already has that functionality built out.

Is it possible to use Participants Database with an Existing Database? If so, do you have any documentation or how would you suggest I approach it?
