  • Normally, a link like you provided will immediately download the file from Download Monitor. In your case, it is instead presenting a big complex HTML page. I have no idea how that is happening. I have to assume you have some server-side code that is causing that to happen. Probably some redirect stuff … maybe inside wordpress or in an .htaccess or in your apache config (assuming you’re using apache).

Or else I’m confused as to what I’m seeing…?

Normally, you make a page in wordpress & put a shortcode in there. That causes a little form to appear that a user fills in and presses submit. An ajax post happens & the server gives back a link to the file to download. Normally, you get a link with a long bunch of random letters & it goes to the email before download program, which then uses a Download Monitor type of link that looks like yours to get the file (if it’s masked) or it may redirect the browser or whatever (depending on configuration settings). Anyway, at some point it uses a link like the one you’ve given, which a person could also just type into the browser if he knew a download ID that worked and new the endpoint in the Download Monitor config settings (which defaults to “/downloads”).

So, I have no idea where or how that page you have is getting in there.. I’d check your web config & other plugins and such.

    Dear Dtyan,

This page is provided by the WordPress Download Monitor and there is no coding being done separately.

As you would see, the Download button on the left side provides the link to download the file. As for the shortcode you had mentioned, I am using that fine in my posts and pages wherein the user fills in his details and the link to download is popped up to him.

I would want that a similar popup opens up when the user clicks on the download button.

I think that page you’re seeing is from the “Page Addon”, which is an addon in the latest versions of Download Monitor ( https://www.download-monitor.com/extensions/ ).

Several years ago, I think that functionality was included in the Download Monitor plugin by default, rather than being a separate addon.

I have never actually used it, so I don’t know much about it. It looks to me like it would get in the way of how Email Before Download wants to work .. and, I guess that’s kind of what you’re seeing really. I certainly don’t see any way to make Email Before Download make its form appear on that page (which would then really just link back to that same page in a continuous loop probably, even if you could do it .. which you can’t I’m pretty sure .. that page is generated by the Download Monitor plugin .. of course, I could be wrong).

Anyway, I don’t think it’s made to work with that. Maybe you have that addon or some old version of Download Monitor. I think you need to turn that functionality off to make EBD work, but maybe there’s something I don’t know. You could pay $10 to M&S Consulting to get a definitive answer, but I suspect they’ll tell you you can’t do what you’re trying to do.
