Using query_posts to display posts on a Page

Hi, I’m using query_posts to display the posts in particular categories on pages of my dad’s site.

Once I started doing this though, I guess query_posts preempts a sidebar widget I was using, Subpages, to display *just* the subpages instead of the unwieldy listing of all pages on the site. How can I get wordpress to still recognize what page it’s on when I’m using query_posts with a custom page template so that the subpages display properly?
