When using the Readability feature and clicking on the Eye Icon to highlight areas for improvement the text is highlighted. As I make edits, the highlight is lost, the cursor is sent to the top of the page and the highlight is reapplied. Trying to make additional edits gets stuck in this loop.

Basically, the classic editor is unusable after Readability is used on the page, as the cursor is reset to the top of the page every few seconds.

    Hello @ivantrendafilov

I’m sorry to learn about your experience with the eye marker feature. Often, we see problems occur in combination with another plugin or theme. The fastest way to rule out any conflict is to deactivate all non-Yoast plugins and switch to a standard theme like Twenty Twenty.

Please test this on your development or staging site if you have one. If not, we recommend using the Health Check & Troubleshooting plugin. This plugin has a troubleshooting mode, which does not affect normal visitors to your site.

If you’re unfamiliar with checking for conflicts, we’d like to point you to a step-by-step guide that will walk you through the process: How to check for plugin conflicts

If you feel uncomfortable doing this yourself or if this does not solve your issue, our Yoast SEO Premium plugin comes with one year of (technical) support.

Hello, Im having the same issue on classic editor and already checked moving to standard theme and deactivating plugins. Please we need help because its a bug.

    Thread Starter ivantrendafilov

    (@ivantrendafilov)

Yes, the bug exists even if Yoast is the only plugin and it’s on the default theme. Please look into it.

    Hey @ivantrendafilov & @ivantrendafilov,

I configured a new InstaWP site and installed the latest Yoast SEO (19.14) and latest Classic Editor(v1.6.2) plugins, but I cannot replicate the scrolling-up bug or issue. When clicking on the eye icon, the highlighting works, and I can go through the content just fine – when I click on a highlighted sentence, I can edit it without having a scrolling bug.

If you can find any steps in order to reproduce, please create a bug report in our GitHub repository. We’re actively using the bug tracking on our GitHub repository, so your best next step would be to create a new issue for our developers here.

You will need an account to create a new issue. Please provide as much information about the issue, including the URL to this conversation. This guide will help you submit a complete report which may result in a faster resolution.

    Hello Jeroen,

I’ve uploaded a video so you can see the issue: https://www.dropbox.com/s/7fswkkq1vsnhaht/IMG_2413.MOV?dl=0

1- Have a text on a blank wp with only Yoast installed.

    2- Press highlight paragraph.

3- The paragraph highlights, but when you try to delete a character and add something, the cursor jumps to the very top of the text (first line) and you cannot continue editing, because each time you want to edit again, the cursor goes back to top again.

The exact same thing happens on a brand new site with the latest Yoast SEO plugin and Classic Editor installed. There are no other plugins installed on the site and you can clearly see the bug in the video:

Did someone actually create a github issue for this bug?

Hello, although in the last release says it was fixed, it wasnt fixed and we keep having this annoying bug. Could you tell us when it will be solved?

The same problem occurs when you highlight text eye icon in “Word complexity: 12.36% of the words in your text are considered complex.?Try to use shorter and more familiar words to improve readability.”

The cursor jumps up. I use the classic windows editor.

These errors have been reported more than 1 month ago. Don’t you still know when they are going to be fixed? It gets really annoying!

And the thread is bizarrely marked as “Resolved”, even though the bug remains.
