Using SEO Framework with Divi and Divi Builder

ePanel Options
TL;DR: Couldn’t get it to work.

The filter provided by Elegant Themes (undocumented!) does work! But not as intended…
The filter is, for future reference: epanel_page_maintabs

The problem is that it effectively allows for removal of the SEO menu item, but not the options it will lead to. This will render the whole ePanel in a buggy state for everything after the removed menu. So the filter is useless :(.

The problem with the ePanel is is that it’s written in the stone age of PHP and WordPress, and has never been rewritten. As such, globals are everywhere and there’s no default way to remove them without overwriting the ePanel functions.

In conclusion:

1. By default, ePanel SEO options are disabled. And it’s best to leave them disabled :), this way they won’t cause any conflicts.
2. The current state of ePanel is that it’s too buggy for external developers to work with. It’s however fine for non-developers.
3. The SEO Framework works perfectly fine with Elegant Themes themes, and certainly Divi.
4. The Divi builder makes automatic descriptions not to render (as there’s no default WordPress excerpt). I’ll take a look at this in the future but I can’t promise anything. Manual descriptions will work as expected.

Frontend output
TL;DR: Maintains default behavior.

The functions for the SEO output do include checks for the two most popular SEO plugins, but the checks aren’t filterable.

The functions are pluggable, but might clash with custom Child Themes. For this reason I’m not going to overwrite them, although it’s possible.

What should I do?
TL;DR: Disable ePanel SEO options.

For now, it’s best to leave the ePanel SEO options disabled in combination with The SEO Framework, this will make sure no SEO conflicts occur.

I hope this helps! I’m going to close this topic as it might take a year or more for it to resolve in a satisfactory way as it requires programmer input from the already very busy Elegant Themes.
