• i have inherited a site that uses 14 different templates, each one is a different page, with some content hard coded into the php. the pages themselves cannot be edited…any content that is entered into the page does not show.
also the sidebar has widgets coded directly into the php, including outputs from some of the plugins. since a couple of the plugins are not functioning correctly, the sidebar widgets have no content.

my question: is using templates to design each page unusual? or am i uninitiated in this way of using wp?

    thanks

  • What is the site url and theme?

That many templates is unusual, and to not allow content in a template is also unusual.

Some times a set of default widgets are loaded into the sidebar, if nothing is activated. But to hard code a widget as you suggest is really not the intent of widgets.

Sorry, Kevin. can’t give url ’cause i don’t want to embarrass my client! theme is highly modified 2011.
all of the wp sites I’ve ever worked on I’ve built myself. this is the first time i’ve had to work on one someone else has built, and i wanted to learn from an expert on this forum whether or not this way of using wp is non-standard. I think you’ve answered my question!

    many thanks
