Hi. The question if it’s possible to use the generated preview images has been answered before (https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/pdf-thumbnails-2/) but since I have loads of pdf downloads and I really need to use those images I’m asking again: Isn’t there a way? One possible solution would be to disable the folder protection for dlm_downloads but it’s obviously not the best way since it might not be save to update now and I guess there was a reason to protect the folder in the first place. Any ideas? Couldn’t that be a feature to build into download monitor? I think many users would agree with that.

    Thanks in advance

  • Hello,

The preview can be created only if the files were accessible. To make the files secure we have put security hence removing it would not serve the purpose of the plugin. I would suggest setting up custom thumbnails for each download and using it instead.

    Hi,

well, the preview images ARE created in the dlm_uploads folder even with htaccess folder protection active so it seems they are accessible after all. Can you please specify “secure” in this context? In my case it’s more important to have the preview images automatically created than secure files. I use download monitor to track download statistics not to restrict access or sell downloads so I think I’d be fine with the unsecure downloads folder.

    Hello,

I apologize for the delay in replying.

If security is not a concern, then I would recommend adding the files using the “Media” menu in WordPress and then copy the file URL to the download field.

The folder our plugin creates for uploading file has a .htaccess file to protect direct access.
