    Hello,

Great plugin. This is going to save us a huge amount of time. We have an old website with hundreds of Dreamweaver pages we are converting to WordPress and Virtue.

My question is whether we need to do anything special to make the imported pages (not posts) work with the new WordPress theme. The Virtue theme has “templates”.

Can we set the template for the imported pages when we import them, or do we need to go through the imported pages after the import and assign the specific template to each one?

If all the imported pages will be using the same template, you can do that during the import. There’s a dropdown for page templates in the Title and Metadata section.

If different pages use different templates, then you would have to set the templates after the fact. Bulk editing will make it a little faster.

Or… if you’re handy with the Dreamweaver search and replace function, you could add the name of the template somewhere in your files’ markup, and then use the importer’s custom field settings to import that, using _wp_page_template as the field name. (That’s how WP stores page templates anyway.)

    Hi Stephanie,

That’s a good idea about adding the name of the WP template to the Dreamweaver template so it appear on each HTML page and then set the WP template on import. Thanks!

As a related question. The site has about 100 Dreamweaver pages with just photos; about 20 per page in a grid — the site pre-dates galleries.

How would you recommend we import those photos in a gallery plugin? Would we work with the html pages, or the jpgs themselves?

    Thanks again!

The importer will bring those in exactly as-is. If you want to go through and replace them with WP galleries later, it should be easy, because the photos will be associated with their parent pages.
