• My stats show I am using about 812 mb out of 1 gb normal memory and I am at the 1 gb limit for virtual memory. I deactivated well over half of my plugins and I am still getting an internal server error.
I have been dealing with this problem since 9/23. Apparently that was a bad day for me because it had been working fine and now it doesn’t work at all (my account was suspended when I came home tonight).

1 gb of memory not very much or is it fine and I really do have a plugin problem. This is shared hosting at WestHost. I upgraded to the Preferred Plan because it was suppose to fix my problem with my database. I had a red indicator in my All SQL databases area of cPanel stats.

What should I do to try and figure this out. Do I need a new host or to upgrade to a better package.
I am sort of losing confidence in them. Why didn’t they just tell me what I really needed on 9/23 or in 6 subsequent times I contacted them.

Anyway, where am I at and what should I do to begin to fix this. It is a pretty broad question, especially you don’t know anything about the setup but, where can I find normal stats for a WP site so I can compare them. How do I begin to troubleshoot?

    Thank you

  • Hi,

Can you check for your server error logs?

An internal server error doesn’t give us much to go by, but if you can find an error_log file maybe in your site root (where wp-config.php resides) or in your /wp-admin folder, there may be something listen that can help us determine the cause.

812mb is a lot if you actually mean php memory_limit and not actual server memory.

How many plugins do you have installed, and is this a single wp install or a multisite install?

    Thanks

I think that you should check what is the traffic that your site is generating. Do you have a lot of visitors? 1 GB of memory is enough memory for a WordPress site, considering that a lot of WP sites are hosted on shared servers which allow them to use up to 256 or 512 MB memory.

However, since you are using a private server, you might have a root access to it. If so, you should be able to check what are the logs saying. For example you can review the Apache error_log and determine if the actual issue is in your memory. You can also review the php.ini values and consider increasing them.

This is something your host should be aware of, though. I think that they should have already informed you what the exact issue is.

My traffic is crap. I have never received more than 60 visitors in a day.
I don’t think this is a private server. It is West Hosts Preferred Plan but it is still shared. I upgraded to preferred because my All SQL Databases stats were red, indicating there was a problem. Upgrading was supposed to fix it but has not.

The errors below are the same errors I had when the All SQL Databases was red, that is no longer red but the errors persist.
Thanks for helping me figure this out.
