Using Variation Sku to display product using Short Code

I’m trying to display products on my homepage using the woocommerce shortcodes ie. [products skus=”1908,8,1″]
This only works if I’m using the main product sku. Products does not display for variation products with a unique sku? Is there a way to display variation skus as there on product?
