Using wordpress as content management system
-
Hi all,
i have a general question about the usage of WP.
Let me first quickly describe what we have to achieve:
We are a small consulting company (~20 employees). We need to rebuild our data managemetn system altogether. The target is a well structured data warehouse for our project activity.
Data acquisition:
Each employee has to capture each of his project. For each information type we want a well-arranged template for “step by step”-information capturing. Certain checks for plausibility (e.g. dates) or completeness are thinkable.
Employees should be able to augment the choice values (not the information type), audit and uniqueness check are desired.
All employees’ entries have to be collected in a database, updates have to be possible.Data management:
The project reference for the whole team has to be derived out of the single employee profiles. General project information has to be captured by the team leader once.
Efficient search mechanism are required, e.g. show all employees with experience in xyz…
Spelling checks are helpful and the references have to be in two languages.Reporting:
the following reports have to be created:
1. Employee profiles
2. Project references for the homepage und the company brochure
3. Templates for tenders
One single report will never contain all information. In best case the report content is freely configurable. The target format is, depending on the application, Word, Powerpoint or html.My question is now whether it is feasable to “abuse” WP for this kind of content management. Also, what is your estimation for someone with little to none coding experience and who is completely new to WP to implement this.
A colleague just came up with the idea of using WP, but he didn’t know for sure whether it is a good idea, so I am asking you.Thank you very much!
