Using WordPress in my own Website?

I am in the process of designing a 3-column website dealing with my travels, photography, and digital art. I would like the center column to contain a WordPress blog. Each month I would like to archive the previous month’s single page, with its blog. The blog will include 512-pixel-wide photos or paintings. Before I download my WordPress, I wanted to know if there will be any difficulty with this and how I might go about doing it. I understand from FAQs that my website code can be inserted into the WP code, but can I isolate it to the center-most of three columns in my layout. I do not want to have to jump to a separate page for the blog. Thanks for your assistance or links to helpful info.
