Using WordPress.com as Host?

WP.com is what it is. Because it’s users have no access to the server you’re limited to the themes listed on the presentaion screen.

exhilarator – the short answer is, yes you can use the WP downloaded from WP.org… BUT… you will need a host that supports the needs of WP. https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Hosting_WordPress

Then once you have a host, you can install WP, set a few settings and be up and running.

Having WP installed onto your PC probably isn’t going to work (as least as for a public site), unless you are planning on running it as a web server on the internet. It will work as a test bed, however. Lots of people have done this. Setup local versions of their website, gives them a chance to play around with a new theme or plugin before pushing it to their live site.

but let me make myself more clear,
I want my blog hosted at wordpress.com to be edited and customised as I used to do with blogspot.
I thought downloading www.ads-software.com would be a workaround solution.
moreover see this following link. It says WordPress can be hosted at wordpress.com. I think it was a mistake.

At wordpress.com you get a free blog as a subdomain [i.e. yourblog.wordpress.com] and you have minimal choices for customizing. AFAIK you can only pick from the themes offered by those who maintain the site. That site is using the multi user version of WP > https://mu.www.ads-software.com
Whetever you download from here – as a stand alone script, you need to find a hosting company like for any other “own” website. Unless you can and want to host it yourself by turning your box into a server.
And no, we do NOT support any wordpress.com question here.

If it takes a second to answer and helps the user make a decision, what does it hurt?

Is it me or does it seem like WP.com/WPMU are treated like redheaded stepkids?

Well, WPMU is not supported here because it has its own support forums.

As for WP.com, I do my best to answer any questions that I run across, but if I can’t answer them, I have to say that WP.com is not supported here. The reason for that is because I want the OP to use their WP.com admin interface’s feedback form (the only official way to get WP.com support) and get the answer that their looking for ASAP rather than wait around for everyone to ignore them or eventually have someone else respond with “WP.com is not supported here.”

And, in all honesty, WP.com should have its own support forum too.

However, simply explaining the differences between WPMU, WP.com, and WP.org is something we should do, because to someone new to WP may not fully understand the differences, and ultimately it’s the same roof we all live under.
