    Hello,

    Emojis play a huge role in my product descriptions and after just updating WC on my staging website to the latest version I found that if I update now a product page, a basic update without editing anything, 90% of the emojis get removed as if they are no longer supported.

    What is causing that?

    Can you help me so I can use the emojis again?

    Here’s an example product page which still has emojis but if I update it they will be gone.

    .

    Hi there @gkaralov ??

    Thank you for contacting Woo support!

    First, apologies for the delay. We have seen a recent influx of tickets and are currently working through a backlog.

    UTF-8 emojis stopped working after updating WC?

    I went ahead with testing this, with a test installation of mine using the latest version of WooCommerce, and everything worked as expected. Linked here is a screenshot, showcasing my test product, which includes emoji.

    This appears to be related with the character encoding, at your site. Feel free to locate the wp-config.php file in your site’s installation, and search if the following two lines appear in it:

    //define('DB_CHARSET', 'utf8');
    //define('DB_COLLATE', '');

    If they do, kindly add // in front of each line, as seen above, and save/update the file on the server.

    Then, try updating WooCommerce again, and see if the issue persists.

    Let us know how it goes!

    Hi @anastas10s,

    I added // in front of each line and sadly all the text became with question marks on the site. I had to reverse the change.

    I really need your help.

    I reverted the changes but my variations are still messed up. All product variations on the website appear with question marks still, even on admin pages.

    How can I fix this?

    Okay I managed to restore the website from a backup and the issue with variation names showing up as question marks is gone.

    However, I still cannot save 90% of the emojis :/

    I did a test now.

    I have a staging site and on it too emojis stopped working.

    I deactivated all pluguins except WC and changed the theme.

    The issue with not being able to save 90% of the emojis wasn’t resolved by that.
