Vanilla Install – and Advanced Excerpt not working

I have just started using WP, and have a vanilla install using the default theme, and was not ‘enjoying’ the experience as I could not get excerpts showing on the home page, so have installed this extension, and still nothing is happening.I have a test site proportal.org/blog
Any comments greatly received, on what i am doing wrong
