    Hi folks,

How do I change the header text from caps to regular? Automatically it appears in caps, and I prefer not caps, thanks.

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

  • Hi Daniel

Unfortunately, your site is in maintenance mode so we can’t check the page.

Are you asking about the Headline Widget in Page Builder? If so, try using the Headline Widget that’s part of the SiteOrigin Widgets Bundle. It has more options. To do so, make sure the SiteOrigin Widgets Bundle plugin is installed and that the Headline Widget is enabled at Plugins > SiteOrigin Widgets. Then, insert the SiteOrigin Headline Widget.

Thanks, Andrew, have done all except “Then, insert the SiteOrigin Headline Widget”.

Insert from where to where please?

Sure, go to Pages, edit the page in question, make sure you’re using Page Builder, click the Add Widget button, use the search field in the modal window to search for SiteOrigin Headline.

Is there a way for me to send you a screenshot: I think I am not explaining myself well

Since we’re both online the quickest would be to take your site out of maintenance mode and send a non-logged in link and let us know which part of the page to check. Thanks ??

Thanks Andrew, I finally got it; did what you said and it worked out.

Another question please; I have a circle icon on the top left of my homepage. It is a photo of myself and under the circle/photo “About Daniel”.

How do I link both to an about page (I don’t want an about page on my menu?)

    Thx

    Great stuff.

Try enabling the checkbox at the bottom of the widget settings labelled: Link title and icon to “More URL”

Yes, I have, the question is to where do I link, how do I create a page with my bio that links to the icon and text? Without the page being visible unless one clicks on the link.

    Thanks

Sure, go to Appearance > Menus, create a custom menu and assign it to the theme’s Primary Menu location. That way you can control which pages show up in your menu. All of your pages still exist but only the ones you want in your menu will be visible.

    Hi Andrew,

Not sure I understand. I tried what you said and get a replacement menu, which I don’t need.

In the header, and to the right, I have a circle icon with my photo, with text under it saying “About me”

I would like to click on this circle icon and text and be redirected to an “invisible page” with my about.

I do not want an about on my primary menu.

How do I exit maintenance mode to allow you access to my site, without going public?

    Best wishes

Your question was how do you create a page without it being visible. The only way a page would be visible is if it was automatically being added to your menu. If a page is automatically being added to your menu you either haven’t added a custom menu or you have the setting to automatically add top level pages enabled. So, go to Appearance > Menus, if you haven’t created a custom menu, create one, save the menu to the theme’s Primary Menu location. Now only you control which pages appear there. Make sure the setting to automatically add top level pages is disabled. If you’re new to WordPress menus, please, see: https://www.wpbeginner.com/beginners-guide/how-to-add-navigation-menu-in-wordpress-beginners-guide/

I do not want an about on my primary menu. Sure, so control the pages in your menu by following the instructions above. Create a custom menu, assign it to the theme’s menu location and then add whatever pages or links you want, minus the pages you don’t want.

For the Circle Icon widget, edit the widget and enable checkbox at the bottom of the widget settings labelled: Link title and icon to “More URL”

You can’t, it would be public. But only for a limited time.

Thanks, Andrew, bear with me, for some reason, I am not communicating my problem.

Kindly have a look at this website: https://www.janefriedman.com/

You will notice in the right header a photo circle widget with text. When you click that it goes to an about page which is nowhere to be found on the menu nor site.

That’s what I’m looking for. I’ve tried the instructions you sent me; have created another menu, assigned it to primary menu, but the about page will always show up.

No problem. Thanks for the info.

Once you’ve created a custom menu and assigned it to the theme’s primary menu location, I’m not following how the About page can be in the menu. You have direct control over which pages/links/posts etc are present in the menu. Is the about page in the menu when you edit at Appearance > Menus? If it is, delete it. If the about page is not in the menu then are you editing the menu assigned to the theme’s primary menu location or are you editing another menu? If you are editing the menu assigned to the theme’s primary menu location and the about page is not in the menu, have you disabled: Automatically add new top-level pages to this menu?

If this doesn’t help, please, send take a screenshot of the menu at Appearance > Menus and upload it to Dropbox or a cloud location of your choice and send the link, happy to take a look ??

Andrew, figured it out finally, but not by using the menu, thanks.
