Variable Products Error: ‘Please select some product options before adding…’

    Hi there,

    We are having some issues with our WooCommerce store. Single products are fine, but for our variable products, the ‘Add to basket’ button disappears and the PayPal and credit/debit card buttons are greyed out. When you click on either one of them, you get this error message:

    Please select some product options before adding this product to your basket.

    Here is an example (broken) variable product: [ redundant link removed ]

    However, for some products, the PayPal and credit/debit card buttons do not appear at all, for example: /product/night-hawker/

    Here is an example (working) single product: /product/astounding-bedtime-stories/

    I see others have previously had this same issue. They were asked if it could be related to plugin or theme conflicts. I disabled all plugins except WooCommerce and switched to the Storefront theme. This did not resolve the issue. Therefore, it does not seem to be a theme or plugin issue.

    It was mentioned there could be an issue with a plugin managing the cache. The prime candidate on our site would be WP-Optimize. I would assume even after deactivating it, as I have already tried, due to the nature of cache, this issue would persist.

    Of course, our problem could still be something else entirely.

    I am using a Windows 10 PC. The problem also exists on my Android phone and my colleague’s Mac computer. It is not isolated, at least for our site, to any one platform.

    For this product, that you gave as an example of a variable product, it doesn’t seem to show any variations at all, and it appears to be a single product at first glance.

    Can you temporarily switch to the Storefront theme and deactivate Elementor, and send us a screenshot of what it would look like (and see if it’s then possible to add the product to the cart)?

    Hi Senff,

    Thanks for your reply. Regarding The Flying Pig, it is listed as a variable product. I’m not 100% sure why, as my colleague is the one who adds the book entries to the site. I will ask him when he’s back working later what that’s about.

    I have taken a screenshot. Elementor and Elementor Pro have been disabled, and the Storefront theme is in use (Incognito mode in the Google Chrome browser on Windows 10). Following this advice, it is still not possible to add the product to the basket.

    The same error remains:

    Please select some product options before adding this product to your basket.

    E: Just to note, the no-buy-button issue seems to be related to the product being out of stock.
