Variation Images Slow to Load

When a user selects a product variation for the first time, the variation image takes several seconds to load, and there is no indication that the image is loading. This is causing confusion as users are not getting immediate feedback.

A solution would be to either a) load all variation images as soon as a product page is accessed so they load immediately when a variation is selected, or b) show some sort of animation that indicates an image is loading.

Are either of these solutions possible?
