Variation of variable product not shown on Order or in Cart

I created a bundle consisting of one normal product and one variable product. On the product page of the bundle, I can choose the color of the variable product without a problem but once it’s added to the cart, I can’t tell which variation it is. When a user orders the bundle, I can’t figure out which color to send to him. Clearly I must be doing something wrong so I’d be very happy if you could tell me what it is that I have to configure to see the selected variations in the cart and on the order.
