Hello, I’m going to reorganize my site to use variations product pages. I’m having trouble displaying the variations images, though they do display in the edit portion of the variations page backend. This link will display a screenshot of the edit portion of one variation. Can you please help me find what I’m missing or doing wrong?

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

    Hi @dyers2,

I understand you’re having trouble displaying the variation images on your website, despite them showing up in the backend.

Here’s a quick way to troubleshoot the issue further:

    1. Clear all caches related to your website. You can ask your host to purge any server-side caches
    2. Temporarily switch to a default WordPress theme like TwentyTwenty-Four or Storefront and see if the issue persists. If it doesn’t, the problem is with your theme.
    3. Deactivate all plugins except WooCommerce and see if the problem continues. If it doesn’t, reactivate your plugins one-by-one, checking each time to see when the issue reappears.

Let us know how this goes.

Thank you. You’ve given me a list of things that will take me many hours to accomplish because I don’t know how to do any of them. I have to go look each one of these things up and watch multiple videos before I can start even one step. Could someone please just look at the links I provided to see if there’s something that jumps out as a likely culprit?

    HI @dyers2

I’m unable to access the link you’ve shared. Could you please provide a link that’s accessible to the public? This will allow us to assist you more effectively.

I’m having trouble displaying the variations images, though they do display in the edit portion of the variations page backend.

To clarify, doesn’t the image switch to its corresponding one when you choose a variation on the single product page? For better assistance, can you provide a video showing the issue on your end? For video, you may use https://loom.com or https://www.awesomescreenshot.com/. Please follow the instructions on that page and then paste the URL into this thread.

Looking forward to hearing from you!

Hello, thank you. The https link to my website won’t work if your IP isn’t in the US. We don’t make international shipments (because tracking doesn’t provide proof of delivery, only that our shipment has entered the destination country), so we just don’t make the site available outside the US. Since that’s the issue I see in your screenshot of the country-blocker message, and if you don’t use a VPN, please tell me what country you’re in and I can make the site available to you temporarily. The imbedded screenshot link just goes to a page on Gyazo which should be open to anyone anywhere. It’s of what I see in my admin area for that page, and to demonstrate that the variations images are displaying for me there. I wouldn’t know what to video, there’s no motion to record.

It’s not so much that the variations don’t switch, it’s that they aren’t displaying at all on the product page. That page correctly displays the main image and one gallery image, both of which apply to all variations. It displays the 9 variations by name in a drop-down list and correctly displays quantity for each when I select them. It’s just not displaying any of the 9 variations images. I haven’t made a variations product page for many years, and I don’t remember if those variations should have their own little thumbnails under the main image with the gallery picture, but if so, they aren’t.

    Hey, @dyers2!

I was able to see the screenshot and your website.

When I checked the website, it shows all variations are out of stock, and, as you mentioned, the main image does no change for any of them.

I checked on my website, and even if the variations are out of stock, it changes the image when I choose them.

This is usually caused by a conflict, so running a conflict test, as my colleague suggested, it a good troubleshooting step. This way we can know for sure if a conflict is causing this, and if it is, find out what exactly is causing it.

I understand you mentioned you don’t know how to do it, so let me share more detailed steps ??

    Before starting this process:

    — Be sure you have a good backup in place of your full site and database. You can ask your host for backup functionality or you can consider using a service like Jetpack. If something goes wrong, you will be able to restore it.

    — It is important to consider as well a staging functionality in case you would not like to touch your production site (you can ask your host if they offer this service), or you can use WP Staging for quickly spinning up a new test site. We strongly recommend doing this so you run the tests without affecting your live website.

When you are all set up to run the test: you’ll first want to change the theme on your site to Storefront.

To do that, please go to Appearance > Themes. If you don’t have Storefront installed, click on Add New Theme.
Then search for Storefront and click Install. When it is installed, click on activate.

Then check to see if the issue is still present. If that resolves the issue, you’ll want to get in touch with your theme’s developer and see if they have an update or fix for you.

If changing the theme doesn’t help, you’ll want to deactivate all plugins except for WooCommerce and take a look.

To do that, go to Plugins > Installed plugins. Then select all plugins but WooCommerce and use the deactivate bulk action.

Step one on this screenshot should select all plugins but Woo, but it is good to make sure Woo is not selected before going to step 2 ??

If that fixes the problem, re-enable the other plugins one by one (gradually), checking after each, to see where the issue is coming from.

To reactivate the plugins one by one, you can go to Plugins > Installed Plugins and click on “activate” on each plugin. But make sure to test after each one to see if the issue comes back.

You can find more about this in this guide.

Please let us know how it goes.

    Have a wonderful day!

Thank you very much. I’m talking with my webhost who also isn’t able to see the variations images. You said, “I checked on my website, and even if the variations are out of stock, it changes the image when I choose them.” So, to confirm, are you seeing the product image with 3 skeins of yarn change to an image of just a single skein when you select one of the variations? Could you send me screenshot of any variation? My webhost is WPEngine, and they aren’t seeing either what it sounds like you are. It sounds like you’re seeing what’s supposed to be displaying, I just want to confirm.

    (@dyers2)

    From the WPEngine technician:

“During our phone call I ran a search-replace to ensure that all DB references are using the https protocol

    wp search-replace "https://meadowcroft-dyeworks.com" "https://meadowcroft-dyeworks.com" --precise --all-tables --network --skip-columns=user_email --skip-plugins --skip-themes

From there I added ^/product to the cache exemption list. After ensuring no caching proxy is set on the domain and logging into the wp-admin I have confirmed that the issue is not related to caching on the WP Engine platform.”

He also helped me set up a staging area, and as soon as that’s completed, I’ll test the theme as you directed. I’ll add to this ticket as soon as I know more but I wanted to get this stage noted while everything was still fresh in my mind.

I’m sorry, it seems I did not explain myself correctly.

On your website, I’m able to see the issue as you mentioned. The images do not change with the variation.

What I meant was that I was not able to replicate the issue on my test website, so it was not a bug or expected behavior. It is something on your website that is causing the issue, so that’s why we need the conflict test. ??

He also helped me set up a staging area, and as soon as that’s completed, I’ll test the theme as you directed. I’ll add to this ticket as soon as I know more but I wanted to get this stage noted while everything was still fresh in my mind.

    Thank you for the information!

Once you are able to run the conflict test, please let us know so we can assist you further ??

    Looking forward to your reply.

    Have a wonderful day!
