VAT not displaying properly all the time

    Hi guys,

    I have a website (https://sailingfast.co.uk/) where we’re having a very odd VAT issue.

    A couple of times over the past few days, my client has noticed that their product prices (entered inclusive of VAT) are showing the same price as the ex VAT price suffix, ie showing both prices as excluding VAT which isn’t correct. Then when we look again shortly after, the product price shows as the correct amount (including VAT). I have since updated everything but the issue has randomly happened again a few days later and nothing has been updated as to how product prices are displayed etc.

    I have no idea where to start with this! Can anyone give any advice/point me in the right direction please?

    Hey @marissawaite,

    Taxes and VAT are calculated based on the settings that are enabled and the information for the customer. However, before that info is known or entered by the customer, WooCommerce will use the ‘default customer location’ settings to try and display something. The VAT calculations may change when the ‘actual’ customer info is entered in many cases, so it would help to check the following:

    – What setting is being used for the “Default customer location” on the WooCommerce > Settings > General page?
    – What setting is being used for the “Calculate tax based on” setting on the WooCommerce > Settings > Tax page?
    – What settings (radio buttons and checkboxes) are being used on the WooCommerce > Settings > Shipping > Shipping options page?

    Depending on the settings being used, these ‘defaults’ may be used as ‘placeholder’ info, but the actual VAT rates should be updated once the customer enters their information during the checkout process.
