When Avalara Avatax is active, WooCommerce by default adds a new column namely “XX VAT Tax” (XX may differ based on location) on non-US orders (refer: page link added). We had contacted Avalara support and they claim the issue is with WooCommerce adding this column when WooCommerce is active.

    Hi @mohit2002

Thanks for that screenshot although I’m not entirely sure of the problem description here: Can you share a bit more on what you’re expecting to see?

For what it’s worth, I did look through the source of the WooCommerce plugin that and can’t immediately find any code that would add that column.

    Hello @riaanknoetze,

Thank you for the response, what I am expecting is to not see the VAT tax column at all instead of it showing $0 tax. I had contacted Avalara support for the same and they replied with:

As per checking with our internal team, we have received an update that the WooCommerce UI is adding the additional tabs when connected to AvaTax Plugin.

AvaTax does not make any changes in the WooCommerce UI, Avalara calculates the taxes based on the tax settings.

@riaanknoetze The major issue I have with it is, it is syncing with quickbooks which might cause confusion with customers and a mess.

    Hey, @mohit2002!

Thanks for clarifying and sharing their reply.

Since neither Woo nor AvaTax should do this, there might be something else interfering to add the column when AvaTax is active.

Can you please run a conflict test to see if this happens when only Woo and Avatax are active?

To test, you’ll first want to change the theme on your site to Storefront, then you’ll want to deactivate all plugins except for WooCommerce and AvaTax and take a look. If that fixes the problem, re-enable the other plugins one by one (gradually), checking after each, to see where the issue is coming from.

    — Be sure you have a good backup in place of your full site and database. You can ask your host for backup functionality or you can consider using a service like Jetpack. If something goes wrong, you will be able to restore it.

    — It is important to consider as well a staging functionality in case you would not like to touch your production site (you can ask your host if they offer this service), or you can use WP Staging for quickly spinning up a new test site.

You can find more about this in this guide.

Please let us know about your findings.

    Have a wonderful day!
