Vega: Polylang not translating Site name and description

I am using the Vega theme in a bilingual blog. I am using Polylang (it supports translation of strings) to add support for multiple languages. It can translate e.g. site name and description in many other themes, but Vega seems immune??? Maybe Vega does not somehow register its strings properly, or what might be the cause? Any idea on how to proceed?

(And oh, I can’t find the Polylang language picker in the custom menu builder, but that’s a minor issue. I can use widgets instead.)
