Okay I’ll give this one more shot…

    Site: https://InfoProReview.com

    WP 4.4.
    PHP Ver. 5.4

    Host: Hostmonster

    Browser: Google Chrome

    PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:
I can view all blog posts, but when I attempt to edit them, the visual editor box is blank. I cannot even click my mouse inside the editor box. I cannot switch to the plain text editor.

If I try to create a new post, I can enter a title in the title box, but I cannot click into the text editor box. If I save the new post, I can see the entry in preview, but cannot enter any text into the post.

    ATTEMPTED SOLUTIONS:
I deactivated ALL plugins and changed the theme to 2013.

Cleared all cache, browsing history, cookies, etc…

    Turned computer off and on.

Tried using Microsoft Internet Explorer 11 and Mozilla Firefox.

    No change.

I can log out of WordPress and navigate the blog and see all of my posts, so I know the information is still in there somewhere.

I just can’t edit text in the editor or upload media. However, I can see all pictures I have previously uploaded.

Ugh. I know I should have set auto-updates off. I forgot.

Thank you to all of the volunteers who tirelessly review all of these problems and give folks like me help. I really appreciate everything you do.

If there is anything I can do to help in experimentation, please let me know and I’ll report back. Once the issue is resolved I’ll be sure to mark it resolved.

Thank you again! You’re the best.

    Pat

Your browser can help you identify JavaScript issues or conflicts. Do you have any Javascript errors in the console when looking at the editor page? – This article can assist you in doing that diagnosis.
    – If you use any caching systems, like Cloudflare, clear those caches.
    – Check that the file permissions of all the PHP files are set correct (i.e., 644).
    – Specifically check files like /wp-includes/js/tinymce/wp-tinymce.php and such.
    – If the permissions are incorrect, then some servers running security code like suhosin won’t allow those files to run.

I had the same problem with my virusscanner ( F-Secure ), he isolated my some local WP4.4 files, try to recover them, see also this link

So… I just went back into my website today.

    And everything is BACK!!!

I have no idea what fixed the problem.

Nothing I actually did yesterday had any effect. Today I go in to check something else, clicked to edit a random post just to check on something eles and BAM, it’s all back!!!???

    I’m perplexed.

    probable a cache issue.

Any how, glad to know everything is back ??

Maybe I need some hint and luck as well:
I can not insert any media not nextgen in posts nor pages. It simply does not load it in the post. I can see media in old posts.
I deactivated most plugins. Did not help.
Tested on another site, same set-up, also last WP 4.4. Not to avail.
Thanks from any Santa propeller head would be very welcome.

Hi i have the same issue cant insert pictures into pages or widgets. I have purged cloudflare. Checked php permissions for 644 and no joy. Not sure if its a conflict with other plugins.

    @colesr,

    @5starcruises,

If you guys noticed this thread is marked as “resolved”!

If the troubleshooting already posted made no difference for you, then, as per the Forum Welcome, please post your own topic. That way you stand a good chance of getting full attention to your specific issue. Despite any similarity in symptoms, your issue is likely to be completely different because of possible differences in physical servers, accounts, hosts, plugins, theme, configurations, etc. Thus one problem, on one setup is not indicative of the functionality and reliability of an application as a whole.

I was able to resolve this by changing all file permissions from 600 to 644. It was mostly the javascript (js) files that had the 600 permission set. We had our site hacked and had to start fresh. Once I changed all files to 644 permissions, I was able to utilize the visual editor once again. As a side note, make sure all of your folders are set to 755 permissions too.
