Verification with Google

  • I’m developing a website https://www.NewEraPest.com.au Using WordPress and HostGator. I want to register it with the Google search engine. To do this I must verify my site.

    I have tried the following, but neither work:
    1. Adding a <head> section in the HTML of the home page and including <meta name=”google-site-verification” content=”pFGSfFo1jztk7cH4l_E1-usapG7YLMLG6nfEghnUstU” /> as supplied by Google.
    2. Adding a TXT record below to the DNS configuration for newerapestcontrol.com.au –
    google-site-verification=pFGSfFo1jztk7cH4l_E1-usapG7YLMLG6nfEghnUstU

    The only other way is to use my Google Analytics account. Google say the tracking code should be in the <head> section of my page (presumably the home page) – but there is no <head> section there (apart from the one I added)

    I’ve run out of ideas. Can anybody help me please?

    1. At the bottom of what? I can’t find it.
    2. The pages have no <head> in their HTML – this puzzles me.
    3. Google Analytics isn’t adding your code to any pages.
    4. 4 months ago you told someone “The code gets placed as an action in the ‘wp_head’ area.” How do I find this, please?

    The pages have no <head> in their HTML – this puzzles me.

    On your page (any page) click CTRL & U or right click your website in an area that has no text or images. You will see the View Page Source option. Click View Page Source and the code of your site will load. Check this article to see how to look ate the page code depending on which browser you use.
    In your theme folder find the file called header.php. Usually that’s got all the <head>...</head> stuff.

    Yes I can now view the code for any page – but can’t edit it. They have <head>s – but no Google Analytics code following.
    I’ll read the article then check out header.php in the theme folder.
    (I seem to be locked out by the front end stuff – must figure out how to get at the code behind the scenes. I’m obviously missing something obvious.)

    The link i posted onyl serves to check the code. You cannot change anything that way. In order to add code you have to access your folders/files on your server. There are two ways of getting files onto your site, and once there, changing them.By using the file manager provided in your host’s control panel. Popular file managers: cPanel, DirectAdmin, Plesk or using an FTP. Check this to learn how to use Filezilla.
