    Hi there,

When activate this plugin, I also failed at “Verify site ownership” step.

    Error message:

The necessary verification token could not be found on your site. This may be related to your site using a page caching plugin. Please flush your home page cache and then try again.

I have tried the following methods and non of them work.

    • renamed .htaccess
    • changed theme header.php file permission from 644 to 666
    • disable all plugins and activate in incognito

And I still cannot pass that step.

Please help me to have a look.

By the way, is there a way for me to manually get the token from my google account or other google source and manually place in the page header? You know, like the domain verification.

    Cheers.

Thanks for reaching out and providing details of the troubleshooting taken so far. So we can determine the cause please share the following:

    1. When you mention it fails at the verification stage do you encounter an error message or are you redirected at a particular stage during setup?
    2. Have you been able to setup Site Kit previously on this site, including on a staging site or before migrating to this particular domain? If so please share details.
    3. Can you share your Site Health information? You can use this form to share privately i preferred.

By the way, is there a way for me to manually get the token from my google account or other google source and manually place in the page header? You know, like the domain verification.

This isn’t possible I’m afraid, the verification token isn’t exposed during the setup stage and it’s not something we provide support for.

    Hi @jamesosborne ,

    Thank you for the feedback.

1, The error massage is below.

The necessary verification token could not be found on your site. This may be related to your site using a page caching plugin. Please flush your home page cache and then try again.

2, No. Because this is a personal website and it is still under construction, I directly work on it. There is no test, staging website for this project.
3, My WordPress is 5.1.x, so there is no site health. Maybe that is the reason about failed to activate Google Site kit. I installed Google Site Kit version 1.28.0 and it only requires wordpress version 4.7 or higher. I am not sure what includes in the site health. But if you need some server information, like PHP version and so on. Please let me know and I can get it from cpanel.

    Thank you for your help.

Oh, by the way, I used WP-CLI to clear the cache and the activation is still not working.

@anyegongjue Nice troubleshooting, and thanks for providing update with what worked for you. While I can’t be sure what the problem may have been when you mentioned were you using a coming soon or maintenance mode plugin at some point?

    Hi @jamesosborne ,

I am not sure what caused my problem. All plugins I installed said they are compatible with wordpress 5.1.x. So maybe some of their compatibilities are not that good, ?? .
