Hi I’m trying to setup a Verizon SMTP and I’ve followed the steps. In the settings I select Other Mailer, enter the host smtp.verizon.net use ssl port 465 enter the full email for user id and the password. I’ve logged into the account to verify this is correct. However, whenever I do an email test it comes back as cannot authenticate. Not sure what else I could be missing as this is pretty straightforward. Can anyone assist or come across this before?

  • Hi @scyfla80,

When you get a chance, could you please try sending a test email (under WPMailSMTP > Email Test) and share the details from that here? Here’s a screenshot for the option to get error details: https://cloud.supportally.com/62654c4f3042

This will help us to get a better idea of what might be going on.

    Thanks!

From the message I’m receiving it seems like the username and/or password is incorrect but I’m able to login to the email site without issues so don’t think it’s that. I’m not understanding where the yahoo mail server is coming into play since I’m selecting other smtp on the setup and using my gmail as the recipient.

    Hi @scyfla80,

It looks like some kind of firewall is redirecting you transparently to Yahoo mail server and you’re seeing Authentication error because you’re logging into the wrong server and Yahoo by default, does not let 3rd party products access the email servers. You can try using 587 with tls encryption or contact your server support to disable bypassing the mail server.

    I hope this helps!
