I have reverted to previous version 1.7.1 because the latest version 1.8.0 breaks my child theme.

I didn’t have time today to fix the problem, but I am happy to create a staging second web site for you to debug.

    Thanks.

    Regards,

    Paul

    Hi Paul,

Thanks so much for using Donovan.

Since child themes override parent themes it can happen that updates cause problems. Simply because some parts of the parent theme are updated, but the overriden parts stay outdated due to the child theme.

If you are using a child theme I can only recommend to always check theme updates on a staging website before, because breaking changes are way more likely with a child theme.

I think our recent update has made some changes to the header.php, so I would start here. Hope that helps.

    Cheers,
    Thomas

    Thanks for the suggestion.

I have set up a test staging web site and may need some help.

Is there a way to send a private message with the web site url address?

I have checked my child theme’s header.php and the only difference is the inclusion of some Google Analytics code.

I enabled 1.8.1 and it broke the staging site (which I can show you in a private message).

So, I think the best thing for me to is to start from scratch and create a new child theme based on your 1.8.1 and take it from there to make my modifications…

…which kind of defeats the object of a Child Theme but I MUST have done something to upset it!

I look forward to your reply.

OK, so I created a new child theme, copied the 4 files I had changed, activated the new child theme and then went through the ‘Customize’ section.

    All done and up-to-date.

You can mark this as solved.

    Regards,

    Paully
