Hi, I’m curious about some of the changes from version 1.x->2.x. I know, from reading the comments here, that 2.x brought a new link checker engine that works on the server, and some folks have (apparently) not liked that.

It also seems that 2.x still contains a “local” link checker, and we the users can choose which one to use.

If I continue to use the local checker, is there any difference from v1.x? I’d like to update to current versions of the plugin, but I don’t want to lose functionality that I have now or be forced to move to a remote server for link checking.

Also, should I find that I really don’t like 2.x, can I revert to 1.x and still have everything in the database “be ok”? (i.e. is what’s stored in the WP DB backwards compatible?)

    Thanks!

    Hi @turbodb,

I hope you are doing well today!

The Local version of BLC will essentially function just as it did before, so you shouldn’t lose any existing functionality. However, there may potentially be some changes due to updates and tweaks made since the old version which are mostly the fixes and improvements.

Regarding your question on reverting back to old version, as the results are stored in database they will be removed upon deleting the plugin unless you did it manually without touching the database. However, when you start scan, the old BLC will be able to scan the whole site again and will manage to find issues.

It’s strongly recommended that you backup your site (including your database) before performing any major changes or updates, such as a version update to a plugin. This way, if any issues do arise you can revert to your previous setup.

    Kind regards,
    Zafer
