I’ve edited numerous files/images in my wordpress 2.3.1 to custom brand it to my site.

It says the following files were modified, none of these have any custom branded content for my site.

Could I just keep my original 2.3.1 installed and copy over the below files?

Just ran a new installation of 2.3.2 and noticed a bug with that “categories” section.

As someone stated above, there seems to be a problem with this.

The problem I found, is different to the one stated above, so this brings the count to # 2 problems with the categories section. The problem I found was that for example if have the following as main cats:

Chevy
Ford
Cars

I cannot add the category “Cars” under any of the other like Ford or Chevy, because the software is only allowing “one” instance of each name. So cars, chevy, ford, etc etc… can only be listed in the categories section once. Now, wordpress overwrites what I type.

Now, this might not be a problem to many, but to me it is and to many others I am sure.

Why you might ask?

1st, it was an old option that was available and NOW is not.

>Press Releases (Sub Cat)

Ford (Main Cat)

In examples like the one above, I wont be able to have such a category structure/layout because I need to repeat several titles and at this time wordpress is not allowing to add them.

Very interested to know a solution to this problem.

Just a short note to say that the upgrade went fine. I don’t even have to deactivate plugins or use upgrade.php. There are some large pictures in the folder /tinymce/themes/advanced and beside an ‘unwanted’ links.htm (I believe) (which I had ‘to FTP’ a few times on one site, with the other ones things went “smooth like shit from a duck’s ass” as mr. Eddie says in “Lost Highway”.
(Just so people like me who immediately begin to scan the forums when they hear of a new version won’t just see the problems.)

The upgrade doesn’t work, like many people we have the duplicate entry problem. i have found many posts about that problem but no solution.

WordPress database error: [Duplicate entry ‘1’ for key 1]

What can we do ?

Did you backup your database and then reload it? It shouldn’t have to. You basically have to just copy over the WP files overwriting the old ones. The database backup is just to be safe.

If and ONLY if you did do a backup, I’d drop the data from the database and reload it back in. That should get rid of the duplicate data and put it back to its original state.

If you did not backup and reload it then I’m not sure what could have caused the problem.

Do you mean a backup via phpadmin ? or is there a backup integrated in wordpress ?

So far i only did full cpanel backups. and just overwrote my wordpress everytime there was an update, but since 2.3.0 we have that bug, so we had to revert to 2.2.x , hoping the next update fixed it, but no luck so far…

use phpadmin and backup/export your database but always check drop table

This way you never have duplicated entries when restoring/overwriting the database

Tried that, no luck, the same problem remains.

What else can we try ?

@patrox–assuming you have a good backup before you started the upgrade:
1. drop all the current tables–meaning drop every table in your database (that is related to WordPress)
2. restore the backups–using phpMyAdmin import/restore the backup you made before beginning the backup process
3. check/rebuild all those tables–use the phpMyAdmin Check/Rebuild ability to make sure your tables are clean (no corrupt data/indexes)
4. do the upgrade.php again

Your WordPress database is already up-to-date!”

I personally have deleted old files instead of the overwrite method after trying the overwrite method.

Today I upgrade to 2.3.2 and now, when I want to “write a post” there is a warning for a Trojan Horse. Coincedence?

I recently upgraded to 2.3.2 and in doing so everything seemed okay until i got an email from the site owner saying that he as getting an 404 error for the Articles. When I checked this out I found that for some reason the address had been changed for all the articles. i.e. https://webtaxcpa.com/wpcategory/articles/ instead of https://webtaxcpa.com/wp/category/articles/.
It seems the forward slash between wp and category has been deleted for some reason. This has been applied to all the articles or posts so everyone of them comes up with a 404 error. Is there a fix for this?
Also another strange thing is that when I check the server there is no directory named category. Is this some kind of hidden directory. Is weird because when I put in the correct address, with the / between wp and category, the articles appear. Can someone explain this? Matt if your reading this please look into same.
