Version 2.4.0 won't automatically upgrade

I have tried several times to upgrade to Version 2.4.0 with no success. It says ‘….be patient..’ but I let it run for 90 minutes with no results. I recently upgraded WP to 4.5.2 so I wonder if that has anything to do with it. Has anyone else encountered this problem
