Problem: Existing Version 2.67.68 Site Destroyed

So I saw the Update Available and innocently clicked it. Instant chaos. Like spaghetti dropped on the kitchen floor. Absolutely destroyed my news page irredeemably. After two hours of heart-pounding hacking, I gave up and killed my whole site. I was lucky enough to have an Installatron automatic backup from the evening before. If I hadn’t, I’d be out of business now- permanently. I don’t have the heart to recode hundreds of hours of work. I read a review somewhere that said “this plugin will break your heart” and I shrugged because Version 2.67.68 is trouble free. I was even going to log in and give you five stars and donate as soon as I start turning a profit. But dude- go read kelly Johnson: KEEP IT SIMPLE STUPID. Robin Williams dies, you kill my website… quite an eventful 24 hours. Get prepared for the typhoon of update support requests you’re going to get from people without Installatron. Or not- they might just go use something else.

I didn’t give you a bad review or 1 star. Yet.

    Solution:
    1) Restored site backup from Installatron.
    2) Installed https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/disable-wordpress-updates/ .

Back in business now. And blood pressure is dropping back to normal.

Sorry, don’t know what to say…had hundreds of people beta testing version 3.0 without any problems. What is an example of rss feeds that used to work but now do not? Just so you know, nothing in the update had anything to do with the way the output was presented, just a different way of getting the data into the database…yes, it wasn’t as simple as before, but people were having problems due to always going out on the web and fetching data – which was very inefficient.

It may be good for folks doing a first install, but it threw my roller coaster right off the learning curve. I’ll still support you for 2.67.68. You might want to consider having a link to it somewhere for those less fortunate who don’t have reliable site backups available (I learned that lesson the hard way too). Time for lunch.

I’m not a genius….just a person who happened to put together an rss reader that other people now use. I have 3 day jobs as well and don’t make a penny from this.

    Hey synopsistoday,
I’m the guy who posted the “break your heart” review. Just got to say, I wish I could take it back, but haven’t found a way to remove or fix it.

Sometimes I throw up a bunch of verbiage without considering what I am putting out in the universe, and that review is one of those moments…which I profoundly regret.

In regards to this plugin, the “wp rss multi importer”, after trying other rss feed importers, I ended coming back to this plugin, as it is by far the best rss feed importer plugin available, paid or free.

When I came back to this plugin, I installed the beta version 2.67.68, which I found to offer many more features. As with all plugins, there are idiosyncrasies that I have learned to live with and work around, but hey…I’m not a coder, and do not have the time or skills to create what this plugin accomplishes….and sometimes…after living with features that I am not fond of, I end up understanding why they are the way they are…and realize that the features are spot on.

So I’m not running to do this update. It is a major update, and like new car models, I will wait for a couple of version updates, after all the bugs are worked out, before I update.

It is always important to backup prior to updating ANY plugin, framework, or wp version (yes, you can turn off automatic wp updates), and that’s your responsibility.

Hey BigDog and Allen – we absolutely agree:

by far the best rss feed importer plugin available, paid or free.

BigDog, BBPress won’t let posters delete stuff, that’s why I don’t use it on my site. It has no “forgive and forget” feature. Doh!

Version 2.67.68 really is trouble free, and when/if my site is a success Allen is absolutely first on my “pay your dues” list, because RSS MI is the heart of ST. I’m going to go write that positive review and give 5 stars right now.

    Thanks Allen !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
